Touch & the WRU

No ALT tag specified

The WRU views Touch Rugby as a fantastic way to bring the game of rugby to a wider demographic. We want the people of Wales to enjoy playing and participating in the sport and view Touch as an extension of that desire.

Changing lifestyles, work patterns, family structures and the dynamics of the game itself, all offer considerable challenges when trying to increase the number of players participating in traditional 15-aside Saturday afternoon rugby. Coupled with that the physical nature of 15-a-side rugby isn't for everyone, and we found that people were being put off continuing to play competitive rugby. We see Touch Rugby as an opportunity to make rugby more accessible to all. It is a fantastic way to keep fit, and maintain the core skills of rugby.

Why is Touch so accessible?

  • Non-Contact
  • Option for mixed teams
  • Less time intensive
  • Great for fitness
  • Great for core skills
  • Extremely sociable
